Chip Encoding and Personalization Expert (m/f/d)

 

for our headquarters in Munich:

Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly skilled and hands-on Chip Encoding and Personalization Expert to support and optimize the encoding and personalization processes for secure identity documents. The ideal candidate will have deep technical knowledge of chip personalization workflows, cryptographic protocols, and personalization machine operations. This role requires extensive experience in native and Java-based operating systems for secure identity documents and an ability to configure, maintain, and troubleshoot high-security document personalization systems.


Key Responsibilities:


Chip Personalization & Encoding Setup:

  • Design, configure and test chip encoding and personalization workflows or biometric passports, ID cards and similar documents
  • Set up secure communication channels with chips using native and Java-based operating systems.
  • Integrate personalization systems with software platforms, databases, and security infrastructures

Personalization Machine Operations & Maintenance:

  • Install, configure, and calibrate personalization and encoding machines.
  • Ensure proper integration with software tools for personalization and security protocols.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues related to chip personalization machines.

Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams:

  • Work closely with project managers, software developers, security experts, and hardware technicians.
  • Provide technical guidance on chip OS compatibility and personalization strategies.
  • Align machine capabilities with project requirements and participate in system acceptance tests and customer handovers.

Security & Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with international standards such as ICAO Doc 9303, ISO/IEC 7816, 14443, and GDPR.
  • Apply cryptographic techniques, including PKI, EAC, PACE, and symmetric key encryption.
  • Implement secure workflows for handling sensitive identity data and conduct regular security audits.

Testing & Performance Optimization:

  • Perform routine maintenance, diagnostics, and calibration of personalization machines.
  • Optimize system configurations to enhance efficiency, reduce downtime, and maintain high-quality output.
  • Monitor system performance and propose long-term solutions for improved stability.

Training and Documentation:

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of encoding and personalization procedures.
  • Prepare training materials and conduct workshops for internal teams and external partners.
  • Document lessons learned and suggest improvements for future projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in chip personalization and encoding for identity documents.
  • Proficiency with native and Java-based chip operating systems.
  • Strong understanding of cryptographic protocols, including PKI, EAC, and PACE.
  • Familiarity with personalization standards like ICAO Doc 9303, ISO/IEC 7816, and 14443.
  • Experience with personalization machines, equipment maintenance, and related software tools.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, analytical skills, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of French, or German is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel internationally for installations, testing, and training.
